› 2012 Strictly Sail Seminars - Miami International Boat Show
Date: Feb. 16-20, 2012
Bob will be speaking at a number of seminars at this year's Miami Boat Show (Strictly Sail). The schedule of the seminars he will be speaking at are as follows:
Solar and Wind Power Technologies - This seminar will be a more focused look at the types of wind turbines and solar (PV) panel technologies available for the cruising yacht. It will include a discussion on the types of regulation most appropriate for each. Bob will use photos for examples of different types of configurations and mounts including examples of misapplications. Time: Feb. 16, 2012 @ 4:45pm
Offshore Energy Management - Bob will present an overview of power management offshore. There will be a dialogue with graphics, photos and diagram examples of system configurations. This seminar will focus is on 3 principal considerations in balancing energy needs; energy production, energy storage, and efficient energy consumption. This includes examples and characteristics of types of batteries, alternators, solar PV, wind turbines and appropriate regulation. Examples of buying for efficiency are included in the discussion. You’ll be shown lots of photos and graphs showing examples of effective system design as well as common system design flaws found in the industry. Time: Feb. 18, 2012 @ 3:30pm
Marine Refrigeration - Bob will present an overview of refrigeration design and technologies available to the cruiser. Refrigeration typically represents the single biggest power drain onboard, in many cases more than all other loads combined. For this reason this discussion has as much to do with energy management as it does managing food storage temperatures. Examples of efficient box design and types of construction material will be covered as well as possible improvements that could be made to existing boxes. AC, DC and engine driven condensers will be discussed, including the latest variable speed control units. A general explanation will be given of a typical refrigeration circuit as it pertains to troubleshooting and diagnostics. Time: Feb. 19, 2012 @ 10:30am
AC and DC Desalination (Watermakers) - This seminar will include an itemized description of existing desalination technologies typically used on cruising vessels along with advantages and compromises between each. In consideration of energy management, a more detailed look at the gallons per watt versus gallons per hour production will be given. A more detailed explanation of the reverse osmosis circuit will be provided as it pertains to troubleshooting and maintenance. Time: Feb. 20, 2012 @ 3:30pm
