Managing energy consumption, production and storage is the key to Sustainable cruising. Effective system design is challenged by the logistics of space, corrosive salt humidity, service access, weight and ultimately, the ability to afford the best versus where to make a design compromise. This is where SALT excels; taking into consideration all aspects of the boat and its Environment towards a system configuration that is reliable, serviceable, and provides many years of use. In general, we work with each customer to design a system that best accomplishes what they feel is essential to their individual cruising lifestyle. Our approach is three fold:

~ Energy Consumption: SALT can provide a comprehensive review of your system’s cruising energy profile and the routine scenarios required to manage your power. More importantly, SALT can Help to prioritize necessary changes from refinements that can be budgeted in later.
~ Energy Production: SALT will give consideration to the specific daily energy production requirements of each customer and then determine the best array of products that meet this goal. Special Attention is given to deck and transom space available for wind and solar power, as well as alternators best suited for the type of engine.
~ Energy Storage: SALT designs battery banks to last on average 8 – 10 years by minimizing discharges below 50% of capacity and preventing batteries from staying discharged for more than a couple of days. SALT carries both wet cell and AGM batteries, and remains abreast of the upcoming Nickel Metal Hydride and Lithium Ion Technologies that might ultimately end up on cruising boats.
