"I got my electric bill today and was excited to see that I do not owe anything for the 2nd month in a row!"

› Keith & Jaime Pomeroy, S/V Kookaburra - Marine Customer
"Now that we are 4 months out of Marathon (& in the Virgins Islands) I wanted to thank you and your crew for the invaluable information and products that you steered us to. The Airhead is great, it has simply made our boating experience 100% better. NO smells when we are out sailing or worries when we are in port. The hoses are all history and we keep wine in the old holding tank, yes still in the bottle. The two drawer Vitrifrigo refrigerator is a wonderful design, superior to anything we have had previously and the addition of the keel cooler has really helped efficiency on the freezer unit. We shall send you some pictures of the islands & beaches so you can remember why you do this.

› Terry & Anne Polkinghorne, S/V Quality Time - Marine Customer
"My wife & I are recently-retired Canadians who purchased a 40 ft. Catalina sloop in St. Petersburg last summer. We had a few improvements added (radar, bow thruster & AIS) then headed for the Bahamas in late November. We missed the St Pete Boat Show, where I'd hoped to hear Bob Williams, who was scheduled to talk about various solar options for boats. However, we made arrangements (by email) to meet after the Show, at his place of business in Marathon - SALT (Sea Air Land Technologies).
Sailing down the West coast & along the Florida Keys, we had to run the generator for a few hours every day to maintain adequate house battery voltage. Motor-sailing helped, but it took away some of the magic. Cold fronts were a reminder of why we were heading to the Bahamas.
We met Bob Williams at a Marathon marina where he reviewed our power needs (largely refrigeration) & he prepared a detailed cost estimate, including all equipment & mounting/wiring of a PV charging system and battery monitoring unit. Brand names included Kyocera solar panels, Blue Sky regulator & Xantrex battery monitor. With a deposit, the parts were ordered & we took a mooring at the City Marina. By the end of the week, sufficient material was on hand to begin - the installation was complete & operating, after 4 (partial) working days at a marina. Although I had assisted in mounting the panels, all critical work was done professionally & only after customer input for layout. Unfortunately, we couldn't take advantage of the solar tax break for US citizens, since we're Canadians.
We have cruised the Exumas & Abacos for the past three months and are currently awaiting a weather window to cross the Gulf Stream again, to store our boat for the summer. The solar charging & battery monitor systems are working well & made our Bahamas travels enjoyable - battery power has not been a concern . We store our shore power cables under the bed.
We would encourage anyone who is serious about keeping their house batteries charged & monitored to consider using the proven expertise of Bob Williams and the SALT team to design/install a PV system to suit your needs - we're very satisfied customers."

The technical expertise has been invaluable and a key factor in the success of the endeavors. "Bob Williams, of SALT, has been at the leading edge of efficient cruising systems for the last 25 years. He is our first choice for the answers."

› Hugo Vihlen– Author, Stormy Voyage of Fathers Day
"I knew my unique voyage demanded 110% of quality and excellence in equipment. Then I came to realize that quality and excellence in people is what assured my successful voyage. SALT reflects Bob’s personal integrity and high values. It was a pleasure dealing with Bob and his progressive company."

› Don and Diana Reynolds, SV Re Metau - Marine Customer
"I love MY NEW FREEZER! I was struggling with a converted icebox that was inadequate and difficult to stock. SALT promised me a freezer that would keep ice cream solid and a custom designed refrigerator that would stop draining our battery banks and that is exactly what they delivered.
The keel cooler they installed means we can disconnect the fan on the compressor, making the system completely quiet and energy efficient. And I can finally enjoy my mint chocolate chip ice cream day after day!
SALT provided me with a beautifully customized, well thought out, and perfectly engineered design. I didn’t think it was possible, but now I no longer dread getting into my icebox. THANKS SALT!”

"Chief Richard Lewis, Seventh Coast Guard District ATON has been working with Sea Air Land Technologies (SALT) of Marathon, Florida. The company has developed the means of measuring solar (productivity, regulation, data logging with wireless access) ... by studying the graph....I can tell if the light house is functioning properly."

› Andy Platt – Project Engineer, Pendennis Shipyard Limited
"After attending a service and installation school run by SALT Service, Inc’s Bob Williams on Marine Air Conditioning Systems, I have the highest possible recommendation for his capabilities as a professional engineer. I found his lectures to be interesting, informative, and presented in a structured and competent manner.
Bob also gave technical advice on a project which is at present under construction at our yard. His ideas influenced the design of the air conditioning system and its installation. He had a wide knowledge of marine systems and products, keeping himself informed about market developments.
I would have no hesitation in recommending Bob to anyone in search of a skilled Marine Systems Engineer, for advice or complete systems design."

"3 years ago I purchased a battery monitor from SALT in Marathon, Florida. I often called for their advice and was always courteously received. A few months ago, a repairman made a mistake in wiring...with damage to the SALT Monitor. It was replaced without charge even though the parts cost several hundred dollars and no longer under warranty."

› John Otterbacher- Author, Sailing Grace
"Rarely will you find a person with Bob William’s combination of technical brilliance, mechanical competence, nautical professionalism, capacity to communicate, and high-order ethics. Come to think of it, I know no one with his combination of characteristics. He’s in a class by himself."

› John Perrotti, Key Largo, Florida - Residential Customer
"A little over a year ago I was discussing solar possibilities with several of my coworkers and decided to investigate further. I called FKEC and was sent informative emails which contained the names of several solar contractors who had done installations in the Keys. A very good friend of ours that had worked with at least two of these contractors directed us in no uncertain terms towards using SALT Service, Inc. as our solar contractor.
The people from SALT began a whole new educational process for us. There are a great many possible configurations and different types of solar systems. Ultimately, we choose a “Grid Tied Battery Backup System.”
We had been told from the very beginning that installing solar hot water made the most financial sense of all of the solar applications. The big question was whether or not we could arrive at a financially workable solar energy array. The people from SALT were very patient and helpful towards that end. They indicated they were interested helping us, not only to have us as customers, but to help show that these types of installations are not only for the very wealthy. After looking at a great many possible configurations, we decided to go with a two-stage approach. We would install a solar hot water system and two thirds of the solar panels we would ultimately have. SALT came up with a solution using a tank designed for coastal exterior installations. They designed a custom, hybrid system utilizing the south facing portion of our roof to accommodate not only the rows of panel we planned to install now, but also taking into account the ones that would be installed after we financially recover from “Stage One.”
As we worked through some of the “nuances” of this custom system of solar hot water heating, SALT was attentive at solving the issues that surfaced. We now have more than enough hot water and it is all heated by the sun."

› Larry Cull- S/V Mystic, Grand Cayman Island - Marine Customer
"I’d like to thank you and your company for the excellent service and assistance in repairing my on board Air Conditioning Unit. I have a Marine Air Systems Air Conditioning Unit aboard my sailboat Mystic located in the Cayman Islands. With the assistance of your staff in Florida, I was able to locate the cause for the failure of my unit. We corresponded by email to undertake tests to verify that the electronic control board had failed. SALT Service immediately air freighted a new, replacement board to the Cayman Islands. I installed the new board and started up my Air Conditioning Unit.
Within 6 days of reporting the failure of my Air Conditioning Unit, I was able to put my unit back into service. The Cayman Islands are hot at this time of year and a functioning Air Conditioning Unit is essential. Your assistance in restoring air conditioning to my sailboat was much appreciated."

› Skip & Lydia – S/V Flying Pig - Marine Customer
"The Frigoboat keel coolers from SALT Service, Inc. are bulletproof! We had a wreck a little over 3 years ago when the keel bashed about 5000 times on solid limestone, and aside from putting a little more 5200 in the hull joint, I didn’t do a thing to it. I’d thought I’d have to replace it, but SALT inspected it and pronounced it sound."
› Howard M. CROSBY– President, Crosby Marine Systems
"SALT installs customized and stock systems in addition to doing service and repair work. Their installation work includes all phases of marine refrigeration, from design and construction of custom cabinets and boxes, to installation of the mechanical and electrical side. In addition to his fine engineering, repair and service work, we are pleased with SALT’s punctuality and reliability."

› Frank A. Marciano, Jr.- President, Dometic Marine
"SALT’s business affiliation with Dometic (Marine Air, Hydronics, Cruisair and Grunert), has been one of integrity and good engineering since 1976. In the mid 80’s SALT’s management has worked on our behalf with many boat builders in Asia and the United States in providing on site systems installation training.
In addition, SALT has been a strong complement to Dometic’s success in supporting aftermarket customers with product sales, installation and service in the Florida Keys."

› Nigel Calder - Author, Boat Owner Mechanical and Electrical Manual
"Over the past couple of years I have worked with Bob Williams (SALT) on several occasions, both in relation to unusual boat refrigeration installations, and also seeking technical information and assistance with my books.
Boat refrigeration is a rather specialized field with its own body of knowledge, which is mostly not written down and is often hard to come by. From time to time I come up with the most arcane queries, but Bob has always been unfailingly friendly and helpful in answering my questions, and clearly has a good grasp of the technical side of the business."

It has always been a pleasure working with Bob. He is not only knowledgeable in his field but uncommonly innovative and bright. We like to think that our company stays on the cutting edge of the newer technologies that become available in the marine field. In order to do this we need people like Bob. › Dr. J And Diana- 53' SPORT FISHING BOAT “FIT FOR DUTY” - Marine Customer
"We want to let you know our two month cruise through the Bahamas on our 1990 Viking 53 sport fisher was exceptional. This was largely due to the boat’s reliability and performance. SALT has maintained/repaired/replaced many systems aboard "Fit For Duty" over the past 10 years. Damage from a horrific lightening strike was also repaired in 2008. The air conditioning kept us cool, the refrigeration and freezer kept us well provisioned and the water maker met all of our fresh water needs. We look forward to our next trip knowing that SALT will continue to be a big part of making our excursions safe and reliable.
Thanks for everything!"
